Up In Lights Productions Presents, All Shook Up. The story of a square little town in a square little state in the 1950's, where Chad (Joshua Alcantar), a hip-swiveling, guitar-playing roustabout, is being released from prison singing Jailhouse Rock. After a guy like Chad comes ridin' into town, playin' his music and excitin' the local women, the warden releases him and tells him to never come back. From here the journey begins and leads Chad to a nearby dreary little town where Natalie (Jessica Dorcey), a young mechanic, is dreaming of love and adventure. She yearns for one true love to take her away, but doesn't realize that her best friend Dennis (Steffan Scrogan) has a secret crush on her. Sitting in the diner owned by Sylvia (Elizabeth Velasquez), the whole town sings the blues in Heartbreak Hotel. Natalie's widowed father Jim (Brinn McNally) joins in, until they're interrupted by the roar of a motorcycle, it's the Roustabout Chad, riding into town. Chad is in need of a mechanic and is introduced to Natalie, who is instantly smitten singing, One Night With You, and so begins the chase to find true love. When Chad asks about any excitement in town, he's told that excitement is outlawed under the Mayor's strict rules: no loud music, no indecent behavior. Chad, incensed, promises to breathe some life into this sad, little town and as he touches a broken-down jukebox, it immediately comes to life, as do the people, through the song, C'mon Everybody. As Chad and Natalie go off to fix his bike, Mayor Matilda (Valorie Girard), Earl (Josh Nelson), the local sheriff, and her son, Dean (Dan Carey) scold the citizens for dancing and singing, then goes off to find the root of this newfound evil. As soon as she turns her back, Dean meets Lorraine (LaRee Battke), Sylvia's beautiful daughter from the other side of the tracks, and the two share a nervous and flirtatious smile, beginning their Romeo and Juliet-like romance. So, Natalie, in an attempt to look more girly, puts on the only dress she owns--a tattered old one she uses to clean car engines. Dennis tries to tell her how he feels for her; Chad asks Dennis to become his sidekick and convinces him to help woo the beautiful and glamorous Sandra (Belinda Purdum), the owner of the local museum. She bemoans the lack of culture in this depressing little town; Chad tries to smooth-talk her, but she resists; Natalie dresses up as a man to try to become friends with Chad; Miss Sandra falls for this new mystery man, and as everyone falls for everyone, they soon become "All Shook Up." As the sun goes down, chaos ensues and everyone in town finds themselves escaping to the abandoned fairgrounds, searching for someone to love as they sing Can't Help Falling In Love. In the midst of everything, the citizens of the town are restless and randy and trying to find their way to the love of their lives. Will true love prevail? Will the power of music win the day? Will this small town in the Midwest survive getting all shook up? These questions and more are answered as the characters come together for the finale Burning Love. From the writer of I Love you, Your Perfect, No Change, Joe DiPietro turns to the Shakespearean comedies Twelfth Night and As You Like It, wherein women dress up as men to woo the guys they desire and love letters are sent by way of go-betweens. Mistaken identity and many other Shakespearean references such as Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet, are thrown into the mix of All Shook Up.
