MORNING SESSION: 10:00am-12:00pm Our auditions workshop will equip performers with the essentials they need to get noticed at any audition. All participants will leave with the skills to handle a cold read, dance audition and vocal audition, as well as helping them prepare specifically for 42nd Street Auditions.
Our Directors and Choreographers will reveal the secrets to a great audition and work individually with each participant to perfect their vocal piece for auditions. A panel discussion with local directors will take place and performers can learn what other directors look for at auditions, as well as the in's and out's of this industry.
A dance session will teach techniques to picking up choreography fast at a dance audition and an acting session will discuss and practice ways to stand out during a cold read. Participants will have the advantage of working with the 42nd Street Script when working on cold reads.

AFTERNOON SESSION: 1:00pm-3:00pm UP IN LIGHTS WELCOMES SPECIAL GUEST ARTIST Michael J. Duran
Michael J. Duran was awarded a Top of the Rocky honor for Best Director in 2005 and the 2007 Best Director Henry Award and Ovation Award for Ragtime. His many Broadway credits include The Music Man, Crazy for You, Me and My Girl and Into the Light. He has toured nationally and in London with Jerry Lewis in Damn Yankees, Petula Clark in Sunset Blvd., Tommy Tune and Anne Reinking in Bye Bye Birdie, Carol Channing in Hello! Dolly and On Your Toes directed by the legendary George Abbott. He has made television guest appearances on Law and Order, Law and Order: SVU, Irving Berlin's 100th Birthday Celebration at Carnegie Hall on CBS and An Evening with Alan Jay Lerner for PBS Great Performances. Michael has received the DDCC awards for Best Director for Damn Yankees, Best Choreographer for Bye Bye Birdie, Top of the Rocky honor for Best Director 2005 and the 2007 Best Director Henry Award and Ovation Award for RAGTIME.
Michael will be at Up In Lights Productions on April 10, 2010 from 1:00pm-3:00pm for a Tap Dance Intensive. You DO NOT want to miss this opportunity to learn from this incredible artist. Currently the Artistic Director for Boulder Dinner Theater.

Through this exciting workshop, students will learn and develop acting skills in improvisation. Used on such TV Shows as Whose Line Is It Anyway Improv is an essential Method used by actors in the development of characters. It can even help an actor get the part at an audition. Through theater games, and exercises, students will gain self-awareness on stage and even confidence to help them with the execution of any scene on stage. This comprehensive program has been designed to give each student specific tools to meet the demands of working on camera for film. The workshop will explore such issues as performance size, he difference between acting for theatre and film, hitting marks, close-ups, behavioral continuity, subtext and screenplay analysis - adding elements one at a time. All students will work each class on camera and evaluate their work on the monitor. Incorporating a cumulative, step by step approach, this workshop will give students the confidence and freedom to have a full and artistic experience within the framework of film.
