Audition Repertoire (Formerly Singing for Actors)

Lean skills of breathing, placement, diction, musicianship, harmony, interpretation, and presentation needed by actors for roles requiring singing. Through a combination of group and individual coaching in class, students will prepare a program of short solos which can be used for auditions.  It is imperative that every performer, regardless of age, has a Repertoire of music that best displays their vocal abilities.  Once a repertoire of music has been put together and rehearsed it is readily available for any audition that comes up.  Upon the conclusion of this class students will have worked on and mastered various pieces of music. Students will perform in every class.  This class is excellent for one-on-one attention and can be an alternative to private lessons when finances aren’t available.

Songwriting and Music Theory for Musicians and Vocalists

Build foundational skills on the guitar, bass, drums, keyboard and voice that will help you write your own songs and play your favorites.  Learn the techniques for building music for a band with in class work-shopping of songs and test your skills as a songwriter.  Specific focus on chord vocabulary, voicings, and progressions, strumming techniques and patterns, and the theory to connect all that information confidently on your instrument and in a band.  Learn in a positive, group setting with two of Up In Lights favorite musicians, Jeremy Girard and Jason Tyler Vaughn.
