Today, Up In Lights is producing three major musicals a year, offering three Musical Theater Camps for children ages 6-15 during the summer, and is hosting workshops throughout the year to provide a more in-depth education in the area of musical theater. In addition to this, Up In Lights is also offering over 25 classes at the Up In Lights Performing Arts Centre in singing, dancing, acting, ballroom, film, and much more. Our current programs have brought over 150 youth to our facility. Let us help you find the perfect fit for you or your child. Musical Theater Productions The productions are the foundation of the company and are open to performers, ages 14 and up, sometimes younger depending on the show. Through an audition process we cast each show with roughly 12-30 members depending on the script, and begin our rehearsals for the production. Teams are in place prior to the productions to head up the following areas: set design, construction, lighting, costumes, publicity, and staging. Productions take place at the Rialto Theater in downtown theater and run for two weeks each. Those interested in auditions and crew positions can contact UIL or join our mailing list. Musical Theater Summer Camps The Musical Theater Intensive is a two-three week camp, where 30 children ages 6-15 learn all aspects of live theater and work with professionals in the areas of technical theater, set design, costuming, choreography, lighting and staging. Three camps are offered each broken down by age group. The children audition; rehearse their lines, songs and choreography to perform a complete musical for a live audience at the Rialto Theater. The Camps are an opportunity for performers of all ages to grow and learn more, specifically in the realm of musical theater. These camps instill a greater knowledge and confidence in the performers that participate in them and enhance the quality of future shows for the organization. Click here for more information
Workshops Up In Lights offers a variety of weekend workshops for all ages. These workshops are an opportunity to gain specific training with other dedicated individuals. Each workshop is a series of educational sessions that focus on a specific area of interest. Over a short period of time, be it an afternoon or all weekend, performers and technicians will concentrate on a defined area. All workshops are a hands-on training and could vary from a stage combat workshop to auditioning techniques. Workshops are often available twice a month. Classes and Training Up In Lights Performing Arts Center is proud to offer an array of classes to train, grow and challenge performers in the area of Musical Theater. Our classes feature excellent instruction from well trained, professional and experienced performers. Currently offering classes in singing, dance, ballroom, film, acting, production, performance, and songwriting; Up In Lights also offers opportunities for in-house private instruction. All classes conclude each season with a large performance at the Rialto Theater to showcase their growth, with full costumes, lights and sound. Some classes are given the opportunity to perform throughout the year at special events around town and are requested to entertain the community, as well as showcase their talent at local gathering. After-School Programs Many local schools have taken advantage of our well trained staff and are hosting events, workshops and after-school programs that introduce the performing arts to their students. With many school budgets limiting the financial support of the arts within the schools, many students are not given the opportunity to explore other options. For many students, sports are not always the option and Up In Lights understands that. If your school would like to host Up In Lights as an after-school activity or workshop, please feel free to contact us. There is a variety of options for each school to choose from. Perhaps teaching students Swing dancing, Latin or a Waltz in their PE Class or create an activity for the entire school just before Prom. Elementary schools may have an interest in a “ready-made” early release program that teaches students music, dance and acting. And Middle Schools can enhance their musicals and plays by offering opportunities for students to learn about Stage Make-Up and Choreography. Having opportunities directly after school, encourages students who may normally not attempt new things, try something because it’s with their friends. Through this they may discover an untapped passion that will influence what they pursue their future.
